Celtic’s Kieran Tierney Wouldn’t Be Phased By Juventus Move

According to Scottish media reports, Italian champions Juventus are the latest side to take an interest in Celtic fullback Kieran Tierney.

Now it could make sense to suggest Juve are looking for a new left-back as rumours are growing that PSG are about to complete a deal to bring Alex Sandro from Turin.

Other names that have been linked with the Bianconeri left-back spot have been Real Madrid’s Marcelo and Manchester United’s Italian international Matteo Darmian.

It might seem crazy to some, but I don’t think Tierney’s out of place in a shortlist that would include Marcelo or Darmian.

The Celtic left-back has been in sensational form since Brendan Rodgers took over the Glasgow side in 2016.

At only twenty-one years old, Kieran has met every challenge put in front of him and conquered it.

His performances have been extremely consistent. He’s already one of the best talents in the Scottish Premiership, he’s look strong in most of Celtic’s Champions League games and he’s already shone in a Scotland shirt.

His performances for the Hoops have seen him pick up the Players’ and Writers’ young player of the year awards in each of the last three years. The fullback was also selected in UEFA’s breakthrough team of the year in 2017.

So what’s all the fuss about?

Well as a left-back, Tierney is very diligent defensively, the youngster isn’t scared to put in a tough tackle or two and he can also break forward in marauding runs and join in attacks.

He’s also a very smart performer. He can see what’s going on in front of him and react. That’s why Tierney has been used as a centre-back in a back three and also as a make shift right back for his national team. That defensive versatility, his attitude to give his all and the fact he doesn’t moan about shifting positions would surely interest Juve boss Max Allegri.

Tierney’s aggression and energy are ideal qualities for any big team as it’s a tempo that opposition sides struggle to contain and it can pin them back into their own half. He also possesses an accurate cross and he can also take a powerful shot from distance.

The player is also used to winning things and playing for one of the biggest clubs in his country. Juventus would represent a step-up in terms of their ambitions but the size of the Serie A side wouldn’t phase the young Scot.

Rodgers knows a talent when he sees one having worked with Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling at Liverpool.

The Hoops boss said this about his number sixty-seven:

“Scotland have a huge talent”

“Kieran doesn’t waste his time doing stupid things, he’s concentrated on his football. He lives his life to be a player, he’s not drinking, he trains like an animal every day and wherever you ask him to play he plays it to a high level. Tactically he’s improving all the time and he’s an absolute joy to work with.”

With Cristiano Ronaldo joining the La Vecchia Signora this summer, it could be an ideal time for anyone to join the Turin giants as they’d come in under the radar.

If the Scudetto holders do indeed make a concrete offer for Tierney then they should be prepared to fork out £30m for his talented services. The Celtic daft defender isn’t in a hurry to leave Parkhead and the Scottish Premiership champs will only listen to premium offers, as Everton seemed to find out to their cost in the last month.

If they agree to that figure then they’d be getting an extremely talented young full-back that’s got limitless potential.
