Christian Eriksen Is The Man That Keeps Tottenham Ticking & They Need To Keep Him
When you look at the Tottenham Hotspur squad you’ll see a lot of stars; Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen, Hugo Lloris and Erik Lamela instantly spring to mind.
But in my opinion, the best player at Spurs has to be Christian Eriksen.
The Danish international is the glue and inspiration that gets more from his teammates.
In his last two outings, Eriksen has shown us why he’s such a great talent with two outstanding displays and one was just a cameo role.
Against Chelsea in their Premier League outing, the twenty-six year old bossed the game with his passing ability.
The Dane created two assists inside the first twenty minutes as Tottenham beat Chelsea 3-1 as they leapfrogged their rivals into third place. Christen made seven key passes, more than any other player on the field. According to Whoscored, he also had an 87% passing success rate and that was the best of any Spurs starting player.
He followed that up by coming off the bench against Inter Milan in a vital Champions League group game and scoring the game’s winner.
In the last twenty minutes, he made twelve passes and every single one was 100% accurate. He also made two tackles and won both of them.
His goal showed off the international attacker’s great composer as he ran onto a Dele Alli pass and steered his left footed shot beyond Inter’s diving goalkeeper and the Nerazzurri’s lunging defenders.
Now Harry Kane is the club’s hero and top goalscorer but every top class striker needs a classy forward in there to provide the ammunition for them to put chances away. Eriksen has four Premier League assists to his name so far this season, and they’ve all come against top class opposition in Chelsea (x2), Liverpool and Manchester United.
Christian has the ability to change games, even the really big ones. That’s because he has the imagination, the vision, the craft and ability to score goals or create chances!
He’s also scored twice and created an assist in his four European games this term.
It’s no wonder that Spurs what to tie down the Dane to a longer term deal. Eriksen’s contract will run out in eighteen months and, as reported in Talksport, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful that the club could conclude they can keep the player at The Lilywhites:
“We are working so hard. The club is trying to take the best decision. Christian will take the best decision.
“I am not worried but I prefer he is going to sign a new contract and stay a long time with Tottenham.”
In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur need to treat him like Kane or Alli and give him a bumper wage rise.
Or they risk losing him to a big European superpower. Spurs have previously lost talented stars like Luka Modric and Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in the past and the La Liga giants have recently been linked with Eriksen, via ESPN.
If Tottenham have silverware ambitions then, for me, they need to keep Christian Eriksen!
