Premier League Week Four Preview – Arsenal vs Tottenham
Week four of the new Premier League season is going to be full of exciting matches, but the one that draws the most attention is the clash between two out of the top five teams gunning for the top flight title.
Both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have suffered defeats the previous weekend. The Gunners lost at Anfield 3-1 to the European champions Liverpool, conceding three goals in the frame of only 17 minutes. While Arsenal lost to another title contender, Tottenham has something to be sorry about from the previous round, as they couldn’t beat Newcastle United at home, practically erasing their great performance from the week before when they drew against the title defenders Manchester City.
Both teams will now be looking to make up for their defeats, and their match-up which is scheduled for the first day of September is surely going to be an exciting one.
The Squads
There still isn’t any information regarding the starting eleven for Sunday’s match, but it will be surprising if either of team makes any significant changes.
Arsenal is going to rely on their forward line with two African superstars – Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Alexandre Lacazette might come in and make it an attacking trio.
The Gunners’ central-midfielder Lucas Torreira scored the team’s only goal against Liverpool in the second half after being subbed-in for Dani Ceballos, so maybe he is going to get more playing time against Tottenham. The midfield also consisted of the captain Granit Xhaka, as well as Matteo Guendouzi and Joe Willock who were both substituted in the late stages of the match against Liverpool.
The defensive line in the previous round for Arsenal consisted of Sokratis, David Luiz, Nacho Monreal and Ainsley Maitland-Niles. While Bernd Leno stood between the posts.
Tottenham underperformed against Newcastle and allowed one of the biggest upsets so far in this new season. Although the Spurs seemed like the more dominant team throughout the match, they couldn’t score a goal, while they conceded one midway through the first-half.
As is the case with any team Spurs plays against, the biggest threat for Arsenal will be Harry Kane. It doesn’t often happen that Kane goes scoreless for three straight matches, so the Tottenham will be hoping for his good performance.
In midfield and support forwards there are Son Heung-Min, Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Christian Eriksen (who started the last match as a sub).
At the back are Danny Rose, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Walker-Peters. Experienced centre-half Jan Vertonghen can always come in if needed. Hugo Lloris will be looking to keep a clean-sheet.
