Steve Bruce Could Be Victim Of Possible Newcastle United Takeover

Newcastle United fans could be set to celebrate the departure of Mike Ashley.

The current owner of the Tyneside club is reportedly about to sell his stake in the Premier League outfit (Via BBC Sport).

Now the potential new consortium does involve Saudi money and that might feel queasy to those Magpie supporters that care about countries and their human rights record but the vast majority of the United faithful will just be pleased that they won’t have to see Ashley at their beloved club’s helm any longer.

To keep that good feeling going the ‘new owners’ will have to set out a detailed plan to bring the club and the community back together.

The best way in doing that is by showing ambition.

The fans will want to see a project that has them at the heart of things and Newcastle challenging for honours.

That will mean a huge decision will have to be made straight away… Who is the best person to manage the club at this key time?

Current Toon boss Steve Bruce will no doubt hope to continue as the team’s manager.

Bruce has stated this is his dream job because he grew up supporting Newcastle United. The Englishman hasn’t done badly in the St James’ hot-seat. He has managed to guide his side to a mid-table spot before lockdown ensued. Steve seems to be getting a lot from a decent, at best, squad.

But he hasn’t had a huge backing from those in the stands. It wasn’t an ambitious appointment, his football teams aren’t known for playing exciting football and that is a what the Toon support want to see from their team. Then there’s the fact that Bruce has had a few failed attempts on his CV without too much top flight successes and one of his former employers were rivals Sunderland.

Personally I don’t think Newcastle Utd fans see Steve Bruce as the man to guide them back to a Premier League top six place or as the manager that ends their search for silverware!

It will all depend on what the potential new owners want to do. If they want to gee up the crowd and show ambition to step up a few levels then they will probably have to replace Steve Bruce.

Maybe they could bring back former coach Rafa Benitez.

Rafa was a massive fan favourite and has a glowing CV. He can attract better players, if he has a beard that will back him.

The Spaniard stated the big reason for his departure was the current owners, if that were to change then maybe Rafa could return to Tyneside:

“After three years of unfulfilled promises, I didn’t trust them.”

If I were the new owners of Newcastle United I would want to make an instant impact and ingratiate myself to the support.

Is there a better way in doing that than bringing back cult hero Rafa Benitez? He already possesses the trust of the fanbase, he knows the club inside out and is a manager who can attract better players toSt James’ Park.

Even if the possible new regime cant persuade Rafa to come back, I fear Steve Bruce’s days at Newcastle United are numbered. The new broom will want to usher in a new era of hope and that will require a top calibre manager to set them up for an exciting longterm project.
