You Know It’s September When Spurs Star Harry Kane Starts Scoring Again
It’s funny but in August Harry Kane just couldn’t hit a barn door and Tottenham Hotspur suffered as they picked up just four points in their opening three Premier League fixtures.
Yet in their first game in September, at a tricky away trip to Goodison Park, Harry found his goalscoring touch again.
In truth the England striker came into the match in a bit of form as he had already scored twice on the first of the month for the ‘Three Lions’.
The hitman grabbed a vital brace as Spurs brushed their opponents aside. Both Tottenham and Everton had suffered from mixed fortunes heading into this one and both want to end the campaign in the ‘Top Four’. But the Lilywhites were just too strong for the Toffees.
It’s quite ironic that the Spurs number ten scored his first of the season with a cross come shot that totally caught out Jordan Pickford. For any goalscoring forward it doesn’t matter how they go in as long as they do and luck is a valuable commodity.
The attacker was quick to acknowledge that he was fortunate with his opening strike:
“I got a lucky one but sometimes you need that,”
Kane’s second was a goal any poacher would be proud of. You want your top striker in the middle of the box ready to receive a cross and steer it home and that’s exactly what happened from Harry. Left-back Ben Davies (who had a great game) delivered a fantastic cross and Kane found space in between the Everton defenders and he steered the ball into the back of the net with aplomb.
The twenty-four year old is a striker right out of the Alan Shearer mould and he seems just as prolific. These goals bring Kane’s Spurs total up to 101 in 169 appearances.
It also brought his tally in England’s top flight to 80 goals in 117 games, only Shearer (80/102) has topped that record.
His international record of ten strikes in twenty-one caps is another phenomenal record.
This is just the start for Kane this season. He has the skill set to once again grab twenty plus goals in the league, that would be for the fourth season running. He can score a variety of goals; with his head, inside/outside the box and from set pieces. When on form he’s almost unstoppable.
In midweek, Spurs return to the Champions League arena against Borussia Dortmund. That’s a stage that Kane needs to shine now. He wants to be seen as one of the top strikers in the world and to be considered at that level you need to be banging them in regularly in Europe’s elite competition.
A few goals and some wins at Wembley would be nice for the Tottenham Hotspur fans also. But I am sure that’s going to come very soon because you can’t keep a good goalscorer down and Harry Kane showed that again today!
