Lukaku Now Has Golden Second Chance To Prove Himself At Chelsea

Ten years ago, a teenage Romelu Lukaku joined Chelsea from Anderlecht.

The youngster would only get ten opportunities to shine for The Blues in the Premier League and in that time he wouldn’t hit the back of the net. The figure of Didier Drogba was always looming over the youngster at this time.

The Belgian hitman would go on and prove himself in England at West Brom, Everton and then at Manchester United (albeit less so). In that time Lukaku scored 113 top flight strikes in 242 top flight games.

The hitman would then go on at bang in 47 goals in 72 Serie A outings with Inter Milan.

Most media sites are now reporting that the twenty-eight year old is heading back to Chelsea a decade after he first arrived in London. The deal is thought to be for around £97.5m (Source – BBC Sport), a whopping £84m more than what they paid for him the first time around.

But this could be an ideal opportunity for Romelu to show everyone that he was always destined to be a star at Stamford Bridge.

The striker has never tasted domestic success in England.

Current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel showed during his first six months that he can get the most out of this Chelsea side, he guided the team to a Champions League triumph after all. So more trophies could be on the horizon for both club and the returnee.

Lukaku will believe that he’s the man to give the Blues as focal point up top that’s good enough to bring the Premier League title back to West London.

Timo Werner underwhelmed during his debut season at The Bridge. But the German international could thrive alongside Romelu in a Chelsea frontline. Lukaku playing through the centre would be the main goal-getter but that would allow Werner to go out onto the left, where he thrived previously at RB Leipzig. Lukaku can also wander off to the ring flank, which would free up space in the centre for the likes or Werner or his compatriot Kai Havertz to get into goalscoring positions.

When Chelsea first bought Romelu Lukaku they were bringing in an exciting youthful prospect. This time they’re bringing back an established talent.

The Belgian star is a world class goalscorer. He has immense power and deceptive speed. He’s clever at bringing in teammates and playing off of them. The forward is one of the world’s best finishers at the moment. Lukaku also possesses wonderful close control and this allows him to create space and avoid challenges when he’s inside the oppositions penalty area.

He will come back to the Premier League after securing the Scudetto with Inter. That should give the marksman the hunger to win more medals!

As well as being on the hunt for new trophies Romelu Lukaku will be desperate to prove himself finally as a Chelsea player. He has stated previously his love for The Blues:

“Chelsea is my favourite team.”

“I have always said it and I have never hidden it”

Not many players can go back to major clubs and prove their worth. This is a dream opportunity for Romelu Lukaku and one I don’t think either party will regret as he should be arriving back during his peak years.
