Classy Olivier Ntcham Celtic’s Difference Maker In Win Over Rangers

After a bit of a hectic week off the field, Celtic showed a united front on the park as they dominated the first derby game of the season and saw off Rangers by a goal to nil.

Midfielder Olivier Ntcham was the match winner and is all round display was fantastic as The Hoops once again won the midfield battle against their Glasgow rivals.

The young Frenchman looked very classy on the ball and he seemed to be continually there to receive it if a teammate had possession.

As Celtic scored through a breakaway, Ntcham charged beyond two Rangers players to arrive in the box at the right time to slot the ball home from James Forrest’s fine assist. The Celtic faithful would’ve enjoyed that hunger and determination to get into the area and get the goal!

Olivier had gone close before that, as he struck a vicious shot from outside the penalty area that Gers keeper Allan McGregor managed to push up onto his bar. I’m always surprised to see teams stand-off Olivier as he can score from distance or he can open up your defence with superb pass from his left foot.

The twenty-two year old central midfielder just seemed to run all day and not get tired. Anytime he’d receive the ball he’d look to play it forward effectively then and anytime Celtic were in dangerous positions in Gers final third you’d always see Ntcham lurking around and willing to get involved.

The Rangers midfield couldn’t get near him and that allowed the former Manchester City youth to dictate the game. The best compliment I can pay Olivier Ntcham was that he made it all look so easy.

Much was made of the blue side of Glasgow closing the gap on their rivals but once again Brendan Rodgers side dominated the vast majority of the game.

Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham bossed the game in the engine room and until Rangers solve that problem, they’ll continue to be second best.

I should also mention Dedryck Boyata. The Belgian centre half clearly wanted to leave the club before the transfer window but he put in a solid defensive shift.

Ntcham and Celtic will hope for a nice run in the Europa League and you’d imagine that if he continues to perform like he did today then the list of admirers is just going to grow as will his price tag!
