Rangers Should Do Their Utmost To Keep Liverpool’s Ryan Kent At Ibrox
Many believe that when Rangers announced that they had signed Kilmarnock attacker Jordan Jones to a pre-contract that was the club preparing for life after Ryan Kent.
At the moment the Liverpool loanee will return to Anfield after the current campaign ends.
While I totally get why people have jumped to conclusions about Kent’s future after the Jones deal was announce by the Rangers website earlier this month, I believe The Light Blues can still do a deal to keep Ryan at the club beyond this current loan spell.
The former English youth international has been impressive form for the Scottish Premiership side.
Gers gaffer Steven Gerrard has allowed Kent to express himself at Ibrox and Ryan has flourished on the flanks with his direct, pacy style. The Rangers support love to see Kent attack opposition full-backs and get the ball into the final third.
The winger became an instant Gers hero when he made a rampaging run down the left-hand side against Celtic at Ibrox last month. As entered the Hoops penalty area the wide-man quickly turned Mikel Lustig inside-out leaving the Swede on the turf before Kent picked out Ryan Jack who would then stuck the game’s winner!
Ryan Kent’s direct play and his creative instincts caused Celtic all sorts of problems in that Old Firm game. Kent’s also impressed when he was playing for the Govan side in the Europa League.
In total, the loanee has played in twenty-four games for Rangers this term and has scored three times. The twenty-two year old has also contributed with three assists.
He produced another fine performance this past weekend, helping his side to a 3-0 over Livingston and scoring in the process.
After taking his time to settle into life in Scotland’s top flight, the winger is now consistently becoming a danger man for the Light Blues.
Now the big question has he done enough to merit a place in Jurgen Klopp’s first team squad for next term?
I really don’t think so. Sure he has ability and is becoming more reliable. He’ll also work hard for the team and try and show for the ball continually but he’s not better than what the Merseyside club already have.
Klopp doesn’t play with natural wide-men and his front three are producing world class performances week in week out. Kent hasn’t reached those standards yet.
Gerrard clearly enjoys managing the player. He said this after the win over Celtic (Source-Liverpoolfc.com):
“Ryan Kent’s performance today, considering he has been out for so long, was outstanding,” .
“I’m sure the fans will remember that for a very long time.”
The player himself has also stated just how much he’s enjoying life at Rangers and hinted that he’s open to stay on at Ibrox (via Daily Mail):
‘It’s a chat Rangers are going to have to have with Liverpool because I still have three years left on my contract there. So it’s a bit out of my hands.’
Maybe Rangers can re-sign Ryan Kent on another loan deal. Or better still they could even talk liverpool into selling the youngster if he’s not in their immediate plans. It could be in The Reds best interests to sell the winger to Steven Gerrard’s Gers with a realistic buy back clause inserted into the deal.
Surely it’s worth Ranger sounding the Premier League giants out and seeing if a permanent move could be on the cards!
