Lukaku Should Wait Until Summer Before Deciding On A Move
According to newspaper reports Tottenham Hotspur have opened dialogue with Chelsea over a possible move for ‘Blues’ frontman Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian twenty year old striker has impressed with his two loan spells in England in the past couple of seasons. He bagged seventeen strikes for WBA last term and so far this campaign he has thirteen goals for Everton. The Toffees are also preparing to talk to Chelsea about Lukaku’s future.
But I don’t think the big forward should worry himself about any possible transfers at this moment in time. At Goodison, he along with his Everton teammates are still in with a chance of getting into the ‘Top Four’ and grabbing a Champions League spot.
Then the Belgian internationalist has a big summer in Brazil to look forward to. Unfortunately for the Belgians their other main striker (Christian Benteke) has been ruled out of the competition because of a ruptured achilles tendon.
Obviously that injury is devastating news for Benteke and the Villa man will be missed by the ‘Rode Duivels’. But in football one players bad luck usually means another player gets a chance to shine. For Romelu Lukaku, he will now get a lot more action in South America and could put himself firmly in the shop window.
After a good World Cup Lukaku could find himself wanted by Champions League sides and also able to ask for more in terms of wages.
I’m still unsure why Jose Mourinho doesn’t seem fancy the giant Belgian. Back in his first stint in charge of Chelsea and Jose would have fawned all over a player like Lukaku. But it now seems like the Portuguese boss looks set in going for someone different. Probably a forward with more experience and a stronger European pedigree. The ‘Special One’ will also look at Romelu’s potential transfer fee and think that he could get at least £20m for the forward and spend the cash on a player like Diego Costa.
But maybe Jose will surprise me and finally give the forward his chance at Stamford Bridge. The former Anderlecht hitman has certainly been in better form than any Chelsea forward this year in the Premier League.
Pundits and writers will say that Lukaku could be best served sorting out his future before the World Cup and go to Brazil free from any transfer hassle. My argument against that would be, that he has a secure contract Chelsea and if he does well in Brazil then there will be more chance of Mourinho keeping him.
No matter what happens in the best international football tournament in the world, Romelu would still have deals on the table to mull over if he is unwanted by Chelsea. So for me the striker to sit tight, enjoy his football and wait for the right time before deciding on his future.
