Southampton Could Have A Star In Jordy Clasie

Southampton have spent around £8m in a deal that brings Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie to the south coast of England.

The move sees the Dutch internationalist work again with boss Ronald Koeman and he’ll replace Morgan Schneiderlin who made a £25m switch to Manchester United this week.

Clasie is a battling midfielder who leads by example and who isn’t scared of a tackle or looking for the ball. he has a style that reminds me of Italian legend Rino Gattuso.

The beauty of his previous relationship with Koeman is that he’ll hopefully settle in well straight away at St Mary’s and played in his preferred marshalling midfield role. He covers a lot of ground with his tireless running; whether its tracking back with the opposing teams danger man or moving into space to receive the ball and play it on.

Typically as he is Dutch he is technically very sound on the ball and aware of all that is around him.

Obviously the twenty-four year old will still need to get used to the English Premier League but he knows that and seems enthusiastic about the challenge. After completing his move he stated:

“It’s a big club playing in what I think is the biggest and most important league,”

His warrior style and easy on the eye passing style should make him a fan favourite with the ‘Saints’ crowd!

I’ve followed Clasie’s career ever since I saw him run a midfield battle between Feyenoord and NAC Breda in 2011 and he has progressed each year and keeps improving.

Jordy Clasie isn’t a glory hunter who will constantly threaten the opposing goalkeeper. He’s the kind of player that every good player needs; a tough player who gives his all and does the stuff that the attacking players stay away from.

I really hope Clasie does well at Southampton. He is a strong midfielder who can hopefully boss the midfield in Premier League fixtures.

His combative style could be ideal for the English game. But he now needs to prove that!
