Arsenal Should Snap Up Riyad Mahrez Before Transfer Window Shuts!
Against Stoke City at the weekend, Arsenal needed a spark to unlock the Potters defence. The likes of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck were all found wanting.
The fact they couldn’t find a way to goal and then feel asleep just after half time meant that the Gunners suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season.
Arsene Wenger’s men had plenty of possession they just missed a man with the magic to create enough clear cut chances for Alexandre Lacazette or Oliver Giroud.
Now they obviously still have Alexis Sanchez at the club and he can provide that craft that unlocks tight defences but the Chilean clearly wants to leave the Emirates. He’s currently suffering from an abdominal problem and I doubt we will see him again until after the transfer window shuts.
Gunners boss Wenger has stated that Sanchez will be made to see out the last year of his contract. Manchester City will probably test Arsenal’s resolve with a £70m bid before August is out.
I think that would be enough to see the Arsenal hierarchy backdown and accept the hard cash. Even if they don’t sell Sanchez this summer, I believe that the Gunners will still need to make a big creative signing in this window. Too often in recent seasons they’ve lacked enough creativity to turn big games.
They should look at trying to do a deal for Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.
The Algerian forward was instrumental when the Foxes amazingly won the Premier League title in 2015-16. During that remarkable campaign Mahrez scored seventeen goals and created eleven assists. Those performances were enough to see Ruyad named the Players’ Player of the Year.
He wasn’t as influential last term in the league, like many at Leicester he suffered a dip in form. But he did impress in the Foxes first Champions League experience. In nine starts in Europe; Mahrez scored four, had two assists and three man of the match awards.
Mahrez has asked to leave Leicester City this summer but unlike others he hasn’t let that issue impact on his professionalism. The Algerian forward has trained well, has no attitude issues and has contributed with two assists in the opening two top flight games this season.
After the Foxes defeated Brighton their boss Craig Shakespeare praised wide-man Mahrez:
“I’ve spoken about Riyad on many occasions in terms of his focus, his professionalism – and you saw today what he’s capable of,”
“While he remains focused and professional, he will always be considered for selection.”
That’s refreshing to hear, especially when you think of those that have missed training, complained to the press and suddenly became injured this summer as they try to push a move away from a football club.
The twenty-six year old undoubtedly has match winning qualities within his repertoire. His electric pace, immense dribbling ability and array of tricks confuse defenders and creates a fear in the final third. He can play on either wing or in just behind the main forward. He also has the vision and crossing ability that could see Alexandre Lacazette realise his scoring potential in England and would also be ideal for the aerial threat Oliver Giroud gives the side.
The versatile attacker clearly has ambitions to get to a top club and prove himself. That hunger is another quality this Arsenal side needs from new signings.
So really they should offer around £40m (which is a decent price in this market) and bring in a player who can change games and get fans off their seats!

It’s best for Arsenal to sign Marhrez but Arsene Wenger is not interested in winning the league. He only wants to destroy Arsenal he built. His desire is to sit on the bench and cling his hands and face in frustration.
He will sell Sanchez on the last day, he cannot resist money offered for any good player. Just wait and see what he will say after selling Sanchez.
Arsene Wenger is past retirement age, he has to resign. He has nothing new to offer. Fresh ideas are gone.
