Mo Salah Would Be Better Off Staying At Liverpool
Mohamed Salah has been in sensational form for Liverpool in his debut season with the Merseyside club, so much so that he’s being compared with the likes of Lionel Messi and linked with a mega deal to join Real Madrid in the summer.
Now we all know that when one of the big two in La Liga come calling then it’s hard for clubs and players to turn them down. Liverpool know this, as they tried desperately to keep Philippe Coutinho but once the Brazilian had his head turned by the Barcelona interest it was only a matter of time before the move was finalised.
That being said, I’m not sure the Salah situation is all together as clear cut.
The Egyptian has only shone in Liverpool red for less than a year and there’s something about Liverpool at the moment that should make the players, the staff and the support optimistic that trophies could soon be heading back to Anfield.
They have an extremely impressive front three in Salah, Roberto Firmino and Saido Mane. When these forwards are on form, then no defence seems to be able to handle them.
Out of every Premier League side, I believe it has been Liverpool that have caused Manchester City the most issues this term. The Reds looked assured and threatening in the first encounter before Mane got himself sent off and then Liverpool won the thrilling game at Anfield (becoming the only side in the league to get a win over Pep Guardiola’s men so far this term)
Liverpool currently lie in third spot in the league and are just two points behind rivals Manchester United. Jurgen Klopp has his side platying swash-buckling football and it’s very entertaining to watch. They are also still in the Champions League and they might be better suited to challenge for that competition this year.
Only City have bettered the 73 league goal tally this term, so it must be a dream for players like Salah to be playing in such a forward thinking team.
The arrival of Virgil van Dijk has seen a big improvement in the defensive department and I think Liverpool might just be a goalkeeper (possibly another defender) and a midfielder away from challenging for the Premier League title next term.
Salah’s goals and style has already seen him become a hero to those that go to the Kop. He glides across the turf, dribbles past opponents with ease, works hard and scores with relative ease. Those characteristics are the exact reason why he’s being compared with the great Messi.
In this campaign Mohamed leads the English top flight scoring charts with his twenty-eight goals. In all competitions, Salah has managed to grab thirty-five strikes and ten assists.
It’s important to remember that he’s been allowed to flourish at Anfield because Klopp hasn’t demanded too much from him. When everyone was talking about Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata, Salah flew under the radar and that has worked out brilliantly for the Egyptian international. He won’t get that at Madrid.
He got his fingers burnt when he moved to Chelsea earlier in his career and Real also have that conveyor belt feel to their squads at times.
Plus he’s still only twenty-six years old, so I don’t think he needs to jet off at the first sign of a deal elsewhere.
Personally, I think Mo would be better off staying at Anfield, sign a new deal that reflects his worth to the team and enjoy a few seasons at a place that really appreciates his style.
Here’s what the player said recently:
“I like the Premier League I lot. I feel it has my style of football. I like to play the Premier League.”
“I said since day one here that I’m happy here at Liverpool and I want to show my football here.”
Will Mohamed Salah change his tune when Real Madrid come calling? It looks only time will tell!
