Xherdan Shaqiri Would Add Depth To Liverpool’s Squad
Liverpool have been extremely busy already this summer. They certainly haven’t let the disappointment of losing the Champions League final get them down.
Deals to bring in Naby Keita and Fabinho have already been completed. Nabil Fekir’s move has become more complicated than The Reds would have wanted but Lyon are well known as being tough negotiators.
Another man that has been mentioned a lot recently, in terms of a switch to Anfield, has been Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri.
I think it could be an astute move from the Liverpool hierarchy and manager Jurgen Klopp if they do indeed bring in the Swiss international.
You’ve got to believe that the twenty-six year old has a point to prove at a top club, after his struggles at Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in his earlier years.
At Stoke, Xherdan has shown that he has the qualities needed to be a success in the Premier League. Overall, Shaqiri has scored fifteen goals in the English top flight. Last term was his best as he banged in eight goals as he was seen as the main man as the Potters fought unsuccessfully to avoid relegation.
As well as being Stoke City’s top scorer, the attacker was also their best creative talent and led the assists charts with eight. He’s a player that likes to provided dangerous crosses and key passes for teammates.
He can play on either wing or as a number ten, that versatility and his direct style will attract Klopp.
Playmaker Shaqiri is a forward thinking player that can do well in counter attacking positions. He’d add more strength in depth in the forward areas and could come in and impress if any of the front three were injured. He could also shine on the right side of a midfield three.
Against Real Madrid in May, you could tell that Liverpool didn’t have the same kind of pool to call on when you looked at their bench. The Merseyside club needs more faces fighting for places, if they want to challenge on all fronts next season.
Swiss juggernaut Shaqiri could be an extremely useful asset to have in the squad as long as he understands and appreciates that he’ll be brought in as a player to enhance the squad. The international could become a great impact sub for The Reds.
At the Britannia Stadium, he was a big fish in a small pond. That won’t be the same at Anfield. If he can get his head around that and meet the challenge head on, then I think Liverpool would be getting a bargain if they bring in a hungry Xherdan Shaqiri for just £12m!

I don’t think he would add depth. I think he would have a genuine shot at getting a starting place in the team. It’s easy to forget just how good he is because he was playing for Stoke last season.
