Liverpool Forward Sadio Mane Should be Looking To Outdo Team Mo Salah

I always believe that there’s nothing wrong with a bit of friendly rivalry between teammates, especially forwards.

As long as it doesn’t create animosity and ill felling between the talent, then I think it should spur players on to have the best of seasons.

Liverpool have a terrific front three and last term Mohamed Salah was a goal machine and he left the other two in his wake when it came to that particular stat.

I don’t think it would’ve annoyed Roberto Firmino, the Brazilian is a hard working attacker that doesn’t mind dropping deep to get the ball and laying off assists for his fellow frontmen.

Sadio Mane on the other hand was probably envious of his Egyptian teammate for all the headlines and goals he was getting. I don’t think Mane was angry or upset, I just think he’d preferred to have got more himself.

The Senegalese international managed a very respectful twenty goals in forty-four appearances last term. He also helped provide eight assists for his fellow Reds. In comparison, Salah scored forty-four times and set-up at least fourteen assists in his maiden year at Anfield.

In this campaign Sadio Mane, should be looking to out perform Mo. Showing that he too can be one of the best forwards in the world.

In the opening weekend of the Premier League season, Mane managed to grab a brace in Liverpool’s win over West Ham United and that was one more than Salah.

If Liverpool have two lethal strikers and Firmino in the middle creating space and wonderful passes, then Jurgen Klopp’s front three could become even better than they were last term.

You should also have Daniel Sturridge knocking on the door to get more game time and adding even more competition in the forward line positions.

Sadio Mane should be looking at topping Salah in this year’s scoring charts. As I said previously, that shouldn’t be at a risk of Liverpool winning football matches. It doesn’t mean that Mane needs to become greedy and not to pass to his fellow frontmen, Salah showed last season that a top scorer can also be a fine provider to the others. What twenty-six year old Sadio needs to do is be more ruthless when the chances come to him inside the box.

If the Liverpool find two prolific scorers in Mane and Salah, then they could be almost impossible to play against and should be challenging for all the major trophies come the end of the season!

  1. I’ve forever been demanding that from mane. . . had he converted 50% of the chances he missed last season he would av outscored most of EPL strikers. Hope to see that this season

  2. Unfortunately Mane often doesn’t see the opportunities to pass to a team-mate, in his desire to score he can be self centred, but he has been getting better.
