Sarri Style Should Keep Eden Hazard Happy At Chelsea
There was much speculation linking Chelsea’s Eden Hazard to Real Madrid during the offseason, it really heated up after the Spanish giants sold talismanic figure Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.
Madrid weren’t given any encouragement in their pursuit and Hazard remained at Stamford Bridge as the transfer window closed.
After a successful World Cup campaign with Belgium, they eventually finished in third place, the forward has returned to London and hit the ground running this season and he’s once again playing with a smile on his face.
Eden’s buoyant mood will have have delighted The Blues support, who may have been worried that he’d seek a new challenge and want to join a Champions League side this summer.
I believe a big part of Hazard’s cheery disposition is that he’s enjoying working under new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.
After some pragmatic years under former bosses Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, Sarri has brought an attacking philosophy to the Bridge.
The former league champions are only one of three teams to win all of their opening four Premier League games, the last time they managed that in 2015 they went on to win the title. Only last season’s league winners Manchester City have so far bettered Chelsea’s ten goal tally.
With Chelsea bossing possession and having so much of the ball in the opponent’s half, Eden is once again flourishing and enjoying himself.
No other Premier League player has had the same attacking influence as Hazard this term, with the Belgian already grabbing two goals and creating two assists this season.
His goal against AFC Bournemouth this past weekend was majestic.
He started the move on the left wing and passed it inside to Marcos Alonso (another top performer under Maurizio), the Spanish full-back then touched it to his left and back to Hazard who was now inside the opposition penalty area. As ever, Eden’s first touch was immaculate and he then opened his body up and controlled his effort beyond The Cherries goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and into the net.
Sarri knows that he has a world class talent in the twenty-seven year old attacker and the Italian is playing to Eden’s strengths. It’s as if the coach has told his team to give the ball to Hazard anytime they’re in the other team’s half. In turn the fantastic forward adores the attention and the responsibility.
After the victory over Bournemouth, Hazard stated:
‘We want to be champions at the end although we know it will be hard because Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham are very strong. So we will see at the end, but we want to be at the top.’
That’s a rallying call for his teammates and a warning to his opponents.
The opposition should take note as the Belgian has previous when it comes to getting results and titles for the Blues.
Chelsea supporters will be delighted with the start Maurizio Sarri has made at Stamford Bridge and importantly how he’s got Eden Hazard playing with a smile and a confident swagger again!
