Favourites’ Challenge At The Champions League Group Stages

The draw of the Champions League group stage has shown that we’ll have to say goodbye to some favorites who have are in quite difficult groups already at this early stage.

Now, they’ll have to fight with their direct competitors already in the near future.

Among eight quartets, not all of them look equal. The real “groups of death” are B and C. They include many teams that are supposed to play in the play-off round but are not considered as the favorites of the tournament anymore. So, Group B includes:

  •         Barcelona
  •         Inter
  •         PSV
  •         Tottenham

Of course, the chances of the team from the Netherlands seem to be almost futile in this UEFA Champions League foursome. However, it can be confidently said that it may really trouble its competitors.

So, why mention the other three teams? Undoubtedly, FC Barcelona will take the top spot. This year, it focuses on the Champions League matches, which Lionel Messi has already stated personally.

Live score results of these competitions won’t leave football fans from all over the world indifferent. So, it can be said that in the presented group, there’ll be the main struggle for the second place in the Champions League round of last 16 between Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur.

Teams’ Chance to Enter the Play-Off Round

These teams are very different.

Even their behavior on the transfer market demonstrates this. Inter were very active and managed to transfer Radja Nainggolan, Sime Vrsaljko and other players who are ready to enter the starting line-up for the Nerazzurri.

As for Tottenham, the team has become the first team in the English Premier League for the history of the transfer window that made no transfers. Of course, it can be said the club has preserved all its leaders but short of depth on the bench may lead to the team getting tired at the end of the tournament.

By the way, the first EPL matches have shown that the team is alright and ready to fight on several fronts at the same time.

However, Group B is not the only interesting draw in the Champions League season.

The strongest club tournament of the Old World is back, so we can expect high-level matches where qualification  to the next round is on the line.
