Everton Would Be Getting A Star Buy If They Signed Danny Welbeck On A Free
It looks like Danny Welbeck is about to run down his contract and leave Arsenal for nothing next summer.
The former Manchester United forward has had his career at The Emirates derailed by persistent injury issues. The Gunners couldn’t wait forever for the England international and went out and paid handsomely for the services of striking duo Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to help lead their line.
Welbeck is now fully fit but is currently kicking his heels on the bench most weeks and getting the odd cameo in the Europa League and the League Cup. His only starts this term have come in Europe and in a cup tie against Championship side Brentford, while he’s also made five substitute appearances in the Premier League.
In fairness to the English forward, Danny has managed to score four goals in the 235 minutes he’s played so far this term. That works out at a goal every fifty-nine minutes. That shows you that he’s got the hunger in his belly to still make the most of his chances and get his name on the scoresheet.
Unfortunately for him, Lacazette and Aubameyang are classy hitmen and look to have struck up a great partnership on and off the pitch. That leaves Welbeck as the odd one out and as we saw during his time at Old Trafford the twenty-seven year old isn’t the type of player that wants to be satisfied with being just a bit part player.
A team that could be ideal for Welbeck could be fellow Premier League side Everton.
The Toffees aren’t at their strongest when it comes to the forward area.
Everton boss Marco Silva is getting a lot from another former Gunners attacker Theo Walcott but he’s being used more as a right winger at Goodison.
Brazilian forward Richarlison is a fantastic talent and he can very dynamic but that’s usually with him out on the left flank.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is another exciting young prospect but he also seems more suited for a wide role. I’m not sure he currently has the experience and guile to lead the line regularly in England’s top flight and score the goals needed to get The Toffees challenging for a top six finish.
You’ve got two hitmen in Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse that give you a very mixed bag. Between them they’ve got just one league goal between them this season.
Everton are crying out for someone with more Premier League experience to lead the line and score more goals for the club.
Danny Welbeck could be that man.
I get the feeling that Danny is desperate to prove himself as being a striker that can do the business on a regular basis given the chance. I also think he’d flourish if he was made a team’s main forward.
Having the likes of Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison, Walcott, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bernard playing in behind him could also get the best out of the hard working attacker as they’d provide plenty of ammunition for the striker.
Interestingly Welbeck has never managed to get into double figures for goals during a Premier League campaign but he’s had to deal with injuries, being on the bench and/or being played out on the wing. Given the chance as an all out number nine I believe he could get around fifteen league strikes per season maybe more.
I don’t think Danny Welbeck is going to get the chance to be Arsenal’s star man and that could see the Merseyside club bring him in on a free next summer or even get him on a cut-price deal in January.
