Liverpool Should Do Their Upmost To Sign Barca Forward

Liverpool are being continually linked with Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele.

The French World Cup winner has struggled to really get to grips with life at the Camp Nou. His manager Ernesto Valverde stated as much earlier this week:

“It’s true that it depends on the game whether we’re interested in wide players who can open the pitch to us. Maybe he was suited to that the other day, with closed defences, but it’s something that can be improved, as well as his recovery after losing the ball.”

It’s believed that Barca’s hierarchy have become inpatient and could now be willing to cut their losses and sell the €105m Frenchman.

So if he’s struggled at Barcelona, why should Liverpool make a move for the winger?

Well a change of scenery could get the most out of Dembele. Some players just don’t suit certain sides. Plus it’s not as if he hasn’t done anything in Spain either. So far this term; He’s managed to grab three goals and an assist in seven La Liga starts and has one strike in one game in the Champions League. Last season, the wide-man created six assists in an injury hampered debut campaign.

Liverpool play with a very fluid front three and the pacey Ousmane would suit their style. The French internationalist can play anywhere in the frontline and seems to be at his best out on the left flank. He’s direct and gets the ball into dangerous positions.

The youngster has good crossing capabilities, loves dribbling at opponents and his speed can be crucial in counter attack situations.

People will state that Liverpool don’t really need him.

They’ve already got a superb front three in Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. They also have Daniel Sturridge, Dominic Solanke and Divock Origi. Plus Xherdan Shaqiri can play up there too.

Yes the three main guys are marvellous but you still need another top player in there to challenge for places and make sure there’s no complacency. Look at the squad depth all successful teams have, you can’t have too many game changers in your squad.

The others don’t easily fit into the energetic and exciting front three.

Sturridge is a fine goalscorer but he struggles out on the wing and he’s prone to injury. Solanke is a powerful striker but the youngster needs more game time and could be better off going out on loan in January. I doubt Origi still has a future at Anfield, he hasn’t done anything of note in the last eighteen months. Shaqiri is a talent but, for me, he influences things from deeper positions and is more of a Philippe Coutinho type rather than a front man.

In Dembele, Liverpool could be getting a world class talent and I don’t think any of the potential replacements are as good or offer as much.

Then you have Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds manager is known to get the best out of players and you’ve got to believe he’d put an arm around Ousmane and coax him back into top form. The player might just need a manager who believes in him and is willing to keep him in team.

You also have to wonder about Sadio Mane’s contract situation, bringing in the twenty-one year old from Barca would at least protect the club in that saga, if the Senegalese fails to agree terms.

The more top players you bring in, then the better your chances are in winning major trophies. I honestly think Ousmane Dembele has the qualities to be one of the world’s best and that’s why Liverpool should do their upmost to bring him in, if he’s available.
