Man United Should Do Everything To Beat Man City And Sign Paulo Dybala

The Manchester Evening News have reported that Manchester City could be about to pounce for Juventus star Paulo Dybala, with the Serie A giants ready to sell the Argentine forward next summer if they get an offer of over £90m.

Personally, I think City’s neighbours Manchester United need to swoop in and try and steal Dybala from under the noses of their rivals.

Man United have started to make big improvements under new interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the team’s morale is now in a much better place.

The Premier League side have some great attacking talent but they can still do with a creative genius who can unlock defences and who can bang in goals from anywhere in the final third.

Dybala hasn’t been at his best for Juve this season but that’s mainly due to playing in Cristiano Ronaldo’s shadow.

The Argentine attacker can play as a number ten, as a centre-forward or as a right winger.

With Ronaldo in the Juventus team, Paulo usually plays through the middle or on the left in a 4-3-3 formation. That has meant that Dybala has had to fight with Federico Bernardeschi for the right wing role.

Now while Paulo Dybala has won that particular battle, his scoring and assist stats on the wing haven’t been as good as they were when he’d play in the centre.

This term Dybala has scored seven times in his twenty two league and Champions League appearances. Interestingly he’s started ten games through the middle and scored five times. Yet he hasn’t struck once in his nine outings on the right wing. He has been extremely impressive with his passing stats, having an average passing success rate of 89% (via Whoscored)

Last term, as Juve’s main attacker Dybala scored twenty-two league goals in twenty-six Serie A starts.

The twenty-five year old is a terrific, world class forward and that’s what Man United need within their squad.

Alexis Sanchez was meant to be that wild card, match winner but it hasn’t panned out that way for the Chilean. Ironically The Red Devils pipped Manchester City to sign Alexis.

But he hasn’t been the creative spark that United were hoping for. During his first twelve months at Old Trafford, Sanchez has looked disinterested and even over the hill. It could be for the best if Man Utd ditch the thirty year old.

Juan Mata is another creative talent in the Man United squad but the Spaniard is another player at the wrong side of thirty. The attacking midfielder is out of contract in the summer and United could be better served served by releasing Mata in the summer.

Dybala would give Man Utd a fresh impetus and he’d be hungry to prove himself away from Ronaldo’s shadow.

The Argentine international loves to spot a fantastic through ball, he’s exciting from set-pieces, can expertly dribble beyond opponents and he also has a keen eye for goal.

In United’s recent win over Newcastle United, Ole started with a 4-2-3-1 formation and Dybala would be ideal as the number ten. He’d also thrive under Solskjaer’s new attacking philosophy.

Dybala also shone in the same Juventus team as Paul Pogba, by bringing Paulo to Old Trafford that could secure a happy Pogba swaggering around in a Red Devils jersey.

After Juve and Man United met in the Champions League earlier in the season, Dybala stated he’s still good friends with the French World Cup winner:

“The first match was amazing for me, the second amazing for him. We have remained in touch since he left. We’re still very close and who knows, maybe in the future we can play together again.”

Manchester United need to make a few impact signings in the summer as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for top trophies again. In my opinion, Paulo Dybala would certainly be an impact signing!
