Manchester City Hitman Sergio Aguero Is One Of The Premier League’s Best Ever
Sergio Agüero scored his 244th goal in a Manchester City jersey today as a he helped his side overcome a one goal deficit to Southampton to beat the Saints 2-1 (BBC Match Report) in the Premier League.
Only Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Andy Cole, Frank Lampard and Thierry Henry have scored more Premier League goals than Sergio. The Argentine is just two strikes behind Henry and four adrift of Lampard, so I’d imagine that the City striker will become the league’s fourth lethal hitman of all-time and he may even overtake Andy Cole before May.
Already this term, Sergio has banged in nine goals in ten league appearances.
Aguero isn’t just a prolific goalscorer though and he doesn’t just do it in the smaller games either. The thirty-one year old is still improving too!
When superstar coach Pep Guardiola took over the reigns at The Etihad in the summer of 2016, the Spaniard would bring in young Brazilian hotshot Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras.
It was speculated during Pep’s maiden year that Aguero was going to be phased out and Jesus would take his place.
But after finding himself out of the team for a spell in 2016-17, Sergio worked his socks off to prove himself under Pep.
He runs more for the team and interacts more unselfishly with those around him. Aguero links-up brilliantly with Raheem Sterling, David Silva and Kevin de Bruyne. As well as his goals, the Argentine international has also provided 60 assists for City teammates over the years.
Pep Guardiola has stated that he loves his main scorer and that a big thing for him is his commitment:
“I think Sergio scored goals in Argentina when he was 16 years old, he’s done so ever since he came here,”
“He’s a special talent and he will die scoring goals. We’ve changed many things, including the messages, me included.”
“From day one I’ve been impressed by his commitment. We need his goals, everyone knows it. Even on the days when he doesn’t score goals, his commitment is fantastic.”

The main thing for me when it comes to Sergio Aguero, is that he’s a top player that never rests on his laurels.
He arrived at Man City, when they hadn’t won anything in the modern era and he was one of the major cogs that helped them secure a major trophy haul in recent years.
Even though he’s now in his ninth season in Manchester, Sergio Aguero’s passion and desire are still there to this day and it shows no sign of abating. He still adores finding the back of the net, he’s still Manchester City’s main focal point and he still works extremely hard for his club.
That’s why Sergio Aguero is a Premier League living legend!
