Arsenal Don’t Need To Bring Back Cesc!
It looks like Barcelona may be ready to let Cesc Fabregas once again leave the Nou Camp. It seems odd given the fact they fought Arsenal for years to get him back to Catalunya.
Former side Arsenal have reportedly got a first option to buy back the Spanish internationalist. Does that mean they should have Fabregas return to the Emirates?
Not in my opinion.
Cesc was obviously fantastic during his first spell with the ‘Gunners’. Has he went to Barca and become an even better player? I don’t think so. If anything I’d say he has gone the other way.
I also cannot see where Arsene Wenger would fit Cesc in at this moment in time. At Barca and with Spain, Fabregas has been pushed forward, usually as a second striker or an attacking midfielder. At Arsenal they already have Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey in there for the attacking midfield role. Would Cesc come in and instantly dethrone any of those two? Nope not for me. I also don’t see the twenty-seven year old having enough pace to play off Oliver Giroud who also lacks in speed.
Some might say that he can return to play in the middle of the park, like he did during his first spell. Now he would be better than fellow Spaniard Mikel Arteta but he shares similar negatives, both are slow and can’t tackle. Since departing for his homeland, the midfielder has lost the dynamic impact he had at Arsenal. What is it with Barcelona ruining players they sign from the ‘Gunners’ like Emmanuel Petit, Alexander Hleb, Alex Song, Thierry Henry and now Cesc. Ok ruining is a bit strong but seriously these players don’t improve at the Nou Camp!
One problem that Cesc Fabregas had, during his Arsenal days, was that he seemed to hold back younger talents. Aaron Ramsey has certainly flourished since Fabregas departed. The Welshman has added goals and assists to his game, whereas before he seemed to be in Cesc’s shadow. Something Fabregas himself noted…
“I watch the way Ramsey is playing now, how he looks so liberated, and I think maybe I blocked his way. Maybe I was an obstacle. Sometimes you need someone to leave for you to step forward and say: “I’m here.”
If they were to buy a midfielder then get a strongman that breaks up play. I just don’t think Arsenal need Fabregas at this moment. They’d be better off spending their cash on a top-class striker, a pacey wingman, possibly a new centre back, a goalkeeper and a right back. At a proposed fee of around £30m, that is too much for a player you don’t really need.
Obviously Arsene Wenger loves the former ‘Gooner’ captain, he did give him his first team debut at sixteen after all. But there is no room for sentiment in football and I think Wenger sees that bringing back Cesc Fabregas won’t be the best piece of business for the club and could cause problems with the balance of his squad.
Now I know Arsenal fans would hate to see a former hero strut his stuff for a rival like Chelsea or Manchester United but that shouldn’t mean that you bring in a costly buy that disrupts all your plans.
They say ‘you should never go back’ and I think that is certainly true with this situation.
