Brilliant Salah Signing Proving Great Business From Liverpool
Liverpool’s season has been blowing hot and cold so far but new summer signing Mohamed Salah has already proven himself to be a top performer for the Anfield side.
The Egyptian international scored two and he also had a hand in another goal as he helped his side record a 4-1 away victory against West Ham United in the Premier League yesterday.
After the win, Red boss Jurgen Klopp stated:
“Our counter-attacking was pretty perfect,”
We all know Jurgen loves a fluid, fast frontline.
Salah is excelling in Klopp’s three up-front formation an his pace and goalscoring ability is quickly becoming vital for the Reds. He has also developed a good understanding with fellow forwards Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. They all offer a versatility that sees them moving across the frontline at various times during the ninety minutes without any fuss. The pace, interchange ability and directness that these attackers bring causes so many chances for Liverpool and it totally bamboozles opponents.
Mohamed’s first goal against the Hammers was right out the Liverpool playbook. His teammates defended a corner, it came out to the forward who passed it on to Sadio Mane. The Senegalese striker then rushed forward and Salah kept up with him. Then in the right opportunity, Mane slipped Salah in and the opening goal was concluded.
The same duo combined when Sadio floated a ball over to the left and Salah expertly dispatched an excellent left-footed strike beyond West Ham keeper Joe Hart. The great thing about this goal was how Salah waited on the left side of the box and had created so much space from himself. Obviously that doesn’t say a lot about West Ham’s defending but still kudos for the Egyptian for waiting and being able to sniff out the free space in the first place.
At just a £34m, Salah looks to be a real bargain for Liverpool.
In his last five fixtures, the speedy forward has scored six goals and also created two assists.
So far this term, Mohamed has bagged himself twelve strikes in seventeen appearances. He has been particularly prolific in the Champions League with four goals in four group games.
The pace and the confidence Salah brings to the team can be game-changing qualities.
Previously in his career Mo Salah decided to turn down Liverpool in favour of a move to Chelsea. The Blues didn’t really seem to get the best out of the attacker, it was quickly decided that he was inconsistent and not composed enough in front of goal.
After only thirteen league appearances with the London side, Salah was shipped out to Italy. At Fiorentina and then AS Roma, the twenty-five year old showed he had the guile and instinct to be a match winner.
Liverpool clearly didn’t forget about Salah and were convinced by his electrifying performances in Serie A and reacted quickly this summer to bring him to Anfield.
He has showed his former employers Chelsea that they were a bit too hasty in getting rid of him, as he’s hit the ground running with Liverpool and scoring freely in England’s top flight.
The forward didn’t find the net against either Manchester United or Manchester City and although he was still dangerous at times, he’ll want to prove that he can do it in the biggest of games.
Salah’s been a gem of a signing for Liverpool and along with Man Utd’s Nemanja Matic he has been one of my signings of the season so far, especially in terms of value for money.
If he can keep this scoring run going, then I’d expect Liverpool to once gain get into the Premier League’s top four and challenge for silverware come the end of the season. Although defensive recruits still need to be added to the squad during the January transfer window!
