Mexican Hirving Lozano Might Be The Man That Helps Spurs Score More
We all know that Tottenham Hotspur didn’t sign any new players during the summer transfer window.
One issue that Mauricio Pochettino has had this term has been scoring goals. Six other clubs have outscored Spurs in the Premier League so far this season.
It doesn’t seem unrealistic to expect Tottenham to try and rectify that by brining in one or two new recruits when the next transfer window opens in January.
One player that might have caught the Spurs manager’s eye could be PSV Eindhoven forward Hirving Lozano.
The Mexican internationalist scored his side’s opening goal in their recent 2-2 draw with Tottenham in the Champions League. The attacker closed down defender Toby Alderweireld, snatching the ball from the Belgian before racing onto goal and finishing beyond Hugo Lloris.
The twenty-three year old showed an urgency and a directness that Spurs have been missing for much of this season.
Lozano, also known as ‘El Chucky’, has been played predominantly on the right-wing and he’s banged in an impressive nine goals in thirteen outings for PSV this season. Hirving has made around 3.3 shots per game this term. He’s also made four assists. Last season, in his debut year in the Eredivisie, Lozano scored seventeen league goals and created eight assists for teammates.
Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have plenty of creative talent but they do lack another serious goalscoring threat that takes some of the responsibility away from main striker Harry Kane.
Although Hirving has performed brightly on the righthand side; the Mexican can also play as a makeshift central striker, a number ten or on the left wing.
Pochettino likes to bring in versatile players and he also likes to snap up younger players that will buy into his footballing philosophies. Lozano does seem like a fit the Mauricio mould when it comes to potential new Spurs signings.
When it comes to supplying others; the wide-man is an efficient crosser of the ball and he can also play some neat through balls. He has boasted decent stats when it comes to taking on opponents, he’s been successful at beating his man around 1.91 times per 90 minutes.
It’s worth noting that the PSV man likes to cut inside and that could allow attacking full-backs like Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier licence to fly down the flank.
PSV boss Mark van Bommel has clearly been impressed with El Chucky’s performances and he insisted on keeping Mexican despite summer interest:
“I do not take into account a departure from Lozano. We do not want to lose him. If we can say no to a bid of forty or fifty million euros? Yes, that’s possible.”
That’s very admirable but I doubt Van Bommel and PSV can continue to ignore phone calls regarding Hirving Lozano’s availability.
Tottenham Hotspur should act quickly in January and freshen up their squad for the second half of the season. Bringing in an exciting attacking talent like El Chucky could add important goals to their frontline!
