What Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Needs To Do At Manchester United

Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has walked back into the club and he knows that it’s not as it was when he arrived as a player in 1996.

The Norwegian is now the club’s interim manager for the remainder of this season.

The man himself has stated to the BBC that he’d love the job on a permanent basis:

“I understand there are so many managers that would love to be manager of Manchester United,”

“I am one of them, but it is not something we have talked about.”

If Ole’s going to get the gig then he has to get the players playing for him and get the fans roaring on the team.

To get the fans onside, he’ll know that the Red Devils need to attack opposition teams, plus try and outplay and outrun them too.

Solskjaer has plenty of attacking talent to choose from.

Anthony Martial is the side’s top scorer in the Premier League this term and he’s becoming a real threat from the left wing. The Frenchman is back in the squad after injury and Ole should throw him straight into the starting line-up asap.

Marcus Rashford is a forward that’s came up through the Man United youth ranks and the fans love local boys starring for the first team. Rashford is such a hard worker and a player that’s dangerous when he’s given the license to attack. Ole needs to give him the chance to put opposition teams on the back foot.

Last season’s top goalscorer Romelu Lukaku has been disappointing this term. He played well with Belgium at the World Cup but he returned from that and looked sluggish and anxious as soon as the goals dried up. The interim boss needs to put an arm around Lukaku and give the striker a big pep talk to turnaround his main hitman’s form.

When Chilean attacker Alexis Sanchez returns from injury, he has to comeback with a can-do attitude. The former Arsenal man is a superb talent but he’s failed to live up to his live-wire, match winning reputation.

Whether people like him or not, Paul Pogba is a world-class player and he proved that by significantly helping France secure the World Cup trophy in the summer. The Sun have stated that Pogba and former manager Jose Mourinho’s relationship was in tatters

It’s up to Ole and his management team to get the best out of Pogba at Man United again. That might mean giving him more responsibility and having him as the team’s dictator in a new attacking philosophy.

That approach might anger a few but just remember Jose’s fell out with Cristiano Ronaldo and Eden Hazard in previous jobs and when he left they once again showed that they were world-class players.

To go out and play a 4-3-3 and attack teams, will buy Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a lot of time with the fans.

The Norwegian gaffer also needs to get positive results. The board will be desperate for Man United to finish in the ‘Top Four’ to get back into next year’s Champions League

There’s also the possibility of United winning UEFA’s biggest club competition, as they’re still in the tournament. Roberto Di Matteo managed to do that feat when he took over at Chelsea in 2012, so it has been done but it is a long stretch.

A good showing in the Champions League, would boost Ole’s chances of getting the gig on a full time basis.

One last thing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs is luck.

Personally, I believe Manchester United have an ideal candidate in mind and will make a big play for that man within the next six months. If Ole’s going to get the job, then I think he needs someone else to say no to it first.

So in conclusion, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has got plenty to do.

He needs to get the most out of his playing squad, he needs to give the team permission to go all out and attack opponents, he needs to get the best out of his most talented players, win games, get the club higher up the league table and hope that the number one target turns down the job.

It’s a huge time for United and their interim boss. It all starts tomorrow and every Red Devils supporter will hope that the Solskjaer era starts off with a flamboyant victory!
